There are a lot of Marvel movies and while I’ve seen all of them all, I don’t have ratings available for all of them yet so stay tuned as they’re added over time. They’re presented in chronological order within the universe.

The Films

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I like the actors but would have gone in a completely different direction with each of the major roles so that was difficult to overcome. The movie itself is enjoyable, yet feels forgettable due to the huge spectacle and brightness of the other entries in the MCU.

MCU aside, it looks surprisingly dark, desaturated and most of it feels slow but fortunately the ending picks up and the final city fight set piece with Abomination is fun. Movies don’t have to be jam packed full of action but the pieces in between here weren’t strong enough for me to really enjoy it.

This one grew on me over time as I didn’t really care for it upon initial viewing but it’s in the rotation of movies I might have on in the background.

I think the fact that it felt like such a deviation from the first two was the primary contributor to my initial thoughts and the superpower element still feels a bit much. I’m also not a fan of the Stark’s army at the end, nor what happens to Potts but I’ve been able to put all that to the side.

The Shane Black variable can’t be overstated and he helps make this movie work with his writing and overall tone. The falling passenger plane rescue sequence on its own is pretty spectacular.

I’m glad I gave this additional chances even though I still have serious issues with it, especially during the finale.

⭐️⭐️

I hate to say that this might be my least favorite Marvel movie but this might be my least favorite Marvel movie.

I found myself watching Black Widow in a very passive way, “things” were happening on the screen and I didn’t have any connection with them. It’s like I was just watching them pass me while staring out a train window.

The plot seems overly heavy, too heavy to tell well, set pieces feel ridiculous and all of our heroes are completely indestructible to the point of it being laughable. This takes you out of the movie it’s so insane.

David Harbour is the best thing in the movie but there is far too little of him to counter the sheer apathy.

If it was more simple and just a straight up Mission: Impossible style spy thriller with a mystery and heist vibe, I think it would have worked better.

Michael Keaton. That’s almost enough said.

It’s an excellent movie, well done and I’m glad it’s not an origin story. We just jump right in and it has one of the better tones for Spider-Man than I’ve seen in a while. Great casting, complex, great action sequences and of course, Michael Keaton.

If there’s one scene that I can watch again and again, more than any other it’s the one with Michael Keaton driving them to the dance. It ends perfectly.

Did I mention Michael Keaton?

I wanted to like it more than I did. There are some standout scenes such as the casino and escape, along with more quiet character moments but the end battle and final confrontation left me wanting.

Chadwick Boseman is really special though, an incredible actor as I came to discover on my own after watching Black Panther and his early death is a tragedy.

There are some serious strengths in the design here along with very solid performances but ultimately, I ended up only liking it.

It took a second viewing for this to sink in a little more. It’s just very different and I didn’t appreciate that at first. I think part of it is that I’m not as interested in the mystical side of Marvel but I’ve warmed up to that.

Yes, the performances are great and it’s genuinely facinating to watch but my mind breaks thinking about the visual effect efforts here. The sheer complexity of scenes I’m sure kept a lot of people up very late at night but it’s appreciated because I’ve never seen anything quite like them.

I liked it and almost liked it a lot.

It is bright, colorful, fun and funny but there was something missing, something keeping me from getting really excited while watching it. I can’t identify what it is exactly but something kept me from engaging on the level I’d like.

It’s certainly not bad, far from it but it sits in the middle for me.

It is Infinity War, probably the heaviest hitting Marvel movie made to this point. It’s bold, complex, epic and one of those movies you either have already seen or probably won’t ever.

Endgame doesn’t even live up to this one.

I’m looking forward to seeing it again and I did buy it when it was released on video. Infinity War is a much better movie but movie events like these feel pretty rare in life so grab on and don’t let go when the opportunity arises.

Am I disappointed that they chose the easiest way out of their problem with time travel? Yes and that’s painful but I hope you were able to see it with a large energized audience. If so I’m sure you heard plenty of crying.

I was a little concerned at the beginning because it took a while to find its footing but once it did I was really into it. The modern interpretation of Mysterio was clever and Gyllenhaal was a stand out.

The story choice and use of Mysterio was perfect timing, especially in a post Endgame era. Unfortunately it had 100% less Michael Keaton but let’s be honest, most movies fall into that category anyway.

Television & Others

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There’s just something about this series that hit me in all the right ways. I don’t want to overthink it, over analyze it or admit that I didn’t always know what was going on. It was just unique television with a whimsical vibe that I loved watching.

The only negative I have is that Loki was quite dense and it feels like they cheated a little by simply extending everything to a second season. I’m glad there’s a second season but I was hoping for at least some resolution by the end and there wasn’t any. That’s ultimately very minor though in what was otherwise an amazing time.

I fully admit I almost really liked this purely because of the fun I had watching it and I don’t think it deserved all the negative reviews. If I watched again there are scenes I might skip but at the end I wanted to see more of Hardy and Venom together.

I had series vibes of The Darkness game from 2007 and that’s a good thing to me.
