Intense, chaotic, anxiety inducing and crazy. The movie succeeds in what it set out to do and I know this because of the reasons why I didn’t like it. I felt uneasy through the entire thing and like I was subjected to a barrage of chaos so while I appreciated it a ton, ultimately I didn’t enjoy.

It was fun to watch but lives in the shadow of the first movie. I don’t believe the opening scene was necessary and don’t understand why it was set in 1984. I also believe there were too many stories being told at once so nothing had time to simmer and build flavor.

It took a while to see but I’m glad I did. I genuinely enjoyed the World War I setting and that helped the movie feel unique. It’s funny, I felt that aspect was so strong that the god and Ares elements almost felt out of place, even though they’re core to the movie.

I enjoyed it but as I’ve mentioned, it was already hard to compete with The Haunting of Hill House. Yes, it’s a separate thing but it’s also impossible to not draw comparisons when it exists in the same storytelling universe (with many of the same actors).

Bly didn’t have scares, just this underlying tone of sadness with some heartbreaking moments especially in the last episode. That doesn’t make it better or worse than Hill House, just different.

The Altar of the Dead was a standout but I was left at the end of the series with too many questions about story details that seemed to disappear. I really, really hope there’s another addition to the series because they’re quite good and I enjoy watching them.

The series though is masterful at making you watch every single part of the frame at all times. That feeling on its own it worth the price of admission and takes talent. Excellent work.

That last episode is sad and Amelia Eve really sells it.

I’ll spare you more drooling over this show but yes, I found it to be that good. It’s rare to come across a show that feels so inspiring, positive, sweet and funny. It’s going to be difficult to wait for the next season.

Believe.

Since we’re back in the world of Bill & Ted right now, this movie means a ton to me. It hit at just the right time in my life and I still find it smart and hilarious.

One of the best horror movies ever made and it still works. There are many things brilliant about it, beyond any of the practical effects. It’s John Carpenter’s best movie and the entire cast absolutely kills it.

I completely understand what this movie is and why it was made. If you followed any of the drama surrounding the The Thing from 2011, you probably have heard of this. Its history is interesting including some funding through Kickstarter but I’m afraid I didn’t enjoy it.

Not every episode felt like it had the same quality with pacing and topics but I binge watched in one weekend. It was like watching video game history books come to life and I recommended it for those warm moments and memories. It’s a series on Netflix, check it out!

Lighthearted, funny and sweet. I really enjoyed it and while it will always be in the shadow of the first, I liked it more than Bogus Journey.

I saw this back when it came out but just now watched it again today because I was in the mood. It was a good movie for both a Sunday and how I was feeling at the moment. I recommend it if you haven’t seen it before.

This was a difficult one for me because the ride was fantastic. It was well acted, well shot, a technical marvel with amazing visuals and there were moments I found myself holding my breath.

So all that being said... I was really frustrated because it wasn’t the movie I wanted it to be. The science felt broken to the point where it took me out of the movie on multiple occasions and the story didn’t go where I wanted it to go.

I really enjoyed Ad Astra and it was amazing to watch but afterwards I felt a little disappointed because of what it could have been. I give it a lot of credit though for sticking with me the rest of the day but then I just got more frustrated. What an odd dichotomy.

I had the soundtrack on cassette tape, that was at least something about this that’s pretty cool.

I can understand if people have fond memories of this movie but it’s just not what I enjoy in Batman. It’s not easy watch and a little headache inducing. It’s just so over the top where it becomes dizzying to me.

This movie knew what it was, what it wanted to be and I respect that a lot. I liked there being some sympathy for Chucky but I also felt the tone was inconsistent and I found myself confused on how to react sometimes. Still pretty fun.

I really like Edward Norton, heck he’s in some of my favorite movies but something about this never quite grabbed me. I really respect the effort I just wished I was more engaged. I saw this only a couple months ago and struggled to remember what it was about.

Classic, sweet and funny. I don’t know how well this holds up to new audiences but I’m glad I watched it again recently. Peter O’Toole was something special.

I admit, I found this genuinely entertaining. Sometimes you just want to have fun and I did. I remember having more fun than I did with the first one so maybe I should watch that again sometime.

This was a recent second viewing, I guess I’ve been on a Sorkin kick lately. This feels like a movie that just washes over you scene after scene, and it’s all in the dialogue. There’s a lot to absorb and if you find Jobs fascinating and think Sorkin is a master how have you not seen this?

EdOKlgwU0AA6bQL.jpg

This felt like a script already written and then turned into a Rambo script and if true, doesn’t mean bad. That kind of thing happens but I felt unpleasant watching this movie and it wasn’t for me. It would be difficult to recommend.

Believe it or not, this year during quarantine was the first time I finally saw this movie. It was on my list for years and I’m so glad I finally saw it. What an unreal performance.

I think I’ve watched this movie 4 times this year and there are so many scenes that are just so easy to play over and over. It certainly doesn’t hurt that it has the Sorkin touch but it’s just great to have on even in the background.

Talk about a slow burn... I didn’t like this movie for a while and it really took its time to show itself. Once it did though, it felt like classic Guy Ritchie. It’s not one of greats like a Snatch and Lock, Stock but I liked it a lot by the time it was over.

I’m not going to knock it, it just wasn’t for me. I had a hard time with the sadistic, torturous tone and its violence was off putting to me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

No, it’s not exactly a movie like the ones I typically give my thoughts on but I really enjoyed this. The Beastie Boys touch on memories of growing up in genuinely warm ways and seeing this history was awesome. Adam Yauch was always my favorite and yes, his passing is still sad.

EXCxA2qUMAAYtNV.jpg

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I don’t have a ton to say other than it was fun, funny and lighthearted joy with no mean spiritedness or cynicism. I’ll definitely watch a sequel.

If the design of Sonic wasn’t updated though and was the same as the original trailer, I wouldn’t have liked it as much. The eyes mean everything, there’s a reason that original character design works.

EV_4VCYUMAIEQHX.jpg

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m well aware critics didn’t like it and it’s not like user reviews are that much better. Sure, there are issues with logic and some questionable choices on how some are characters are represented but I have to give it a lot of credit because I was on the edge of my seat.

Underwater felt like a bunch of pieces from other movies put together into one so while it didn’t feel original, it was well executed and I felt a little out of breath by the end. I was genuinely surprised.

I wanted to like this more and really thought I would like it more. There was just something... something that couldn’t quite grab me even though it’s very sweet. It almost felt false in a way and I’m not saying it wasn’t a great effort but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped.

I just liked it a lot and found it super engaging. It has great performances with a motivational story based on real events. The actors are super engaging to watch, the driving is awesome and the fact it’s all based on a real story is a cherry on top. It’s pretty awesome, I recommend it.

This was a much more serious and heavy movie than I was expecting. Yes it had some humor but it felt sporadic and sometimes uneven. I greatly respect the humor and perspective of Taika Waititi, he’s super smart but the tone felt uneven. I didn’t know how to feel.

Even with that being the case, I was emotionally involved on levels I’m not usually. Performances were top notch and I loved the overall look. My hats off to Taika for pulling this off and I couldn’t be happier for the success he found with Jojo Rabbit but be warned, it’s heavy.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This movie felt like an odd mix of The Thing, Creepshow and Annihilation. It’s stuck with me, was in my mind a good part of the day after viewing and the day after that. It’s a strange feeling of tragedy, sadness and horror.

The buildup over the first hour was incredible, the cinematography memorable and I was hooked on the visual design from the first shot showing a small breeze blowing through the heavy forest mist. How the movie made me feel as a whole was greater than any individual part.

It’s unfortunate I found myself frustrated with some decisions and even though I love Nicolas Cage, I’m not convinced he was the right person for the role.

I mean sure, the past behavior of his father started surfacing in him as he started falling further into influence of the color but when that surfaced, it became difficult to separate that from Nicolas Cage the actor.

I know the intent was to remain vague and leave a lot up to your own imagination but ideas I thought were interesting took 90 degree turns where I was hoping otherwise. For example, I liked an idea that none of this was intentional but was a simple side effect of the color.

All that was thrown out the window when the sheriff was taken by the tree because that showed intent and seemed out of place. The play with time, whether it could be argued the daughter’s rituals made her the only one saved in the end, the irony of what happened to the mother...

...all of this made me keep thinking and it goes much, much deeper than what’s on the surface. Some pieces I would have done differently and it got a little messy in the last act but I have to say that the design, music, visuals, pacing and interpretation potentials are special.

I 100% can see others not reacting the same because like I said, I had many issues but can’t deny the impact it had on me and I really respect that. Would I watch it again? Unknown but a lot of what I saw was pretty special, even though it wasn’t completely what I wanted.

Moments of unintended humor really didn’t help things either and that’s truly unfortunate but if you have an interest in those movies I mentioned at the top, this is probably worth a viewing.

I saw this many years ago but I enjoyed this recent viewing so much more. There is no question it gets dark, too dark in a few scenes and the violence also goes a bit too far on occasion but there’s something unique and entertaining here. Rockwell and Walken absolutely kill it.
